2 dogs chained, extremely dehydrated, heat stroke Norristown, PA (US)Incident Date: Friday, Jul 22, 2011 County: Montgomery
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Kimberly Cox
After finding two dogs chained up in a yard suffering from the effects of the 100 degree heat and dehydration, a Norristown woman was charged with animal cruelty.
After receiving an anonymous tip about the dogs on Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m., Norristown police went to a house in the 1000 block of Thomas Barone Street, the residence of 31-year-old Kimberly Cox, and found a white pit bull and a black and tan rottweiler in the back yard, according to a Norristown police report.
The pit bull was "extremely dehydrated" and appeared to be suffering a heat stroke; the other dog was only slightly better off. Police learned Cox was apparently in New Jersey.
After getting the leashes wrapped around a motorcycle parked in the yard, the animals were unable to get to water bowls, police reported.
Police put the dogs in a vehicle and took them to the SPCA in Whitemarsh to be treated.
The veterinarian at the facility confirmed the pit bull had heat stroke and found the dog's temperature at 107 degree - five to eight degrees higher than normal. The animal was given intravenous fluids and cold packs and a cold towel were applied.
The rottweiler, which fared better, was placed in the regular kennel area. The SPCA staffers were instructed that if Cox came to the facility and asked for the dogs back, they were to deny the request. References |
