Licensed animal exhibitors Galecki and Broz, doing business as Funky Monkey Exotics were charged with violations of the Animal Welfare Act.
Funky Monkey Exotics failed to provide medical care for sick or injured animals and, on more than 1 occasion used an unproved method of euthanasia.
APHIS inspectors found that they also failed to 1. Keep the premises clean and in good repair 2. Establish and maintain an effective program for the control of pests 3. Make a responsible party available during business hours on 4 separate occasions for the purpose of inspection.
The Animal Welfare Act requires that regulated individuals and businesses provide animals with care and treatment. The standards include requirements for recordkeeping, adequate housing, sanitation, food, water, transportation, exercise for dogs, veterinary care and shelter. The law regulates the care of animals that are sold as pets at the wholesale level, transported in commerce, used for biomedical research, or used for exhibition purposes.
