Dog's throat slashed Bessemer City, NC (US)Incident Date: Sunday, May 29, 2011 County: Gaston
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » Billy Jerry Mitchem » Julie Anne Mitchem
Two people face animal cruelty charges for cutting the throat of a Jack Russell terrier belonging to another man, according to arrest warrants.
The incident took place on May 29, but warrants in the case were not filed until July 19.
Police say Billy Jerry Mitchem, 52, and Julie Anne Mitchem, 51, both of 404 Dameron Road, Bessemer City, did "maliciously mutilate" the dog by cutting its throat with a sharp cutting instrument, according to warrants.
The dog belonged to Howard Ray Eaves of 182 Hood Road, Bessemer City.
Neither Eaves nor arresting Gaston County Police Officer G.J. Kuzia could immediately be reached for comment.
The severity of the dog's injuries was not made clear on the arrest warrants.
Both Billy Jerry and Julie Anne Mitchem were held in Gaston County Jail under a $3,500 bond.
Assistant District Attorney Kelvin Atkinson supported the $3,500 bond figure stating in a court record both lacked a prior criminal record and they had turned themselves in. References |
