A female pit bull is safe and sound after apparently being tossed in the Passaic River.
Tyco Animal Control with assistance from the Hawthorne and Paterson fire departments rescued a female pit bull from the Passaic River this morning.
Animal Cruelty Investigator Carol Tyler received a phone call about the dog at 10:35 a.m. and sent a crew to the river to evaluate the situation. The dog was found on a base of the railroad bridge that crosses Wagaraw Park.
"We suspect someone might have tossed her in the river by the Hawthorne park," Tyler said.
The dog appeared to have just had puppies and had severely swollen nipples. The Hawthorne and Paterson water rescue teams were able to successfully rescue the dog.
"It was a nice, easy and gentle capture," Tyler said. "She just wanted to get help. She didn't run from us at all."
The dog was transported to the Saddle River Animal Hospital and was left in the care of Dr. Kathlen Hesner. She will be examined to make sure she still isn't carrying puppies or received any injuries.
"She's being examined as we speak and seems to be as gentle as a lamb," Tyler said.
Once the dog is cleared by the vet it will need a home. Tyler said she is looking for a nice home and anyone interested in adopting the female pit bull can call 201-652-4554. References |
