Investigators are looking for the person responsible for setting a dog on fire Wednesday night.

The Humane Society said someone walking along Rush-Mendon Road on the Lehigh Valley Trail saw the animal on fire around 11 p.m.

Sheriff Deputies put out the flames and the dog's body was taken to Lollypop Farm.

Veterinarians are trying to determine whether or not the dog was killed before being set on fire. They say it was a small breed but do not know much more about the dog.

Adrienne McHargue, of Lollypop Farm said, "I haven't come across something like this and its just sad whether the animal was dead or not, that somebody would think this is an appropriate thing to do to an animal is just, Very sad. And our vets will be looking looking at it for any evidence that will help them determine what caused the death of the animal."

Some in town, like Ralph Hansen, say teenagers hang out around that trail all the time.

"I never go down to find out what they're doing. They're not supposed to be there, not supposed to have horses or bikes or anything."
