Puppy and woman attacked during domestic dispute Marblehead, MA (US)Incident Date: Friday, Jul 1, 2011 County: Essex
Charges: Felony Non-CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Christopher Joseph Tome
A woman who just a week ago asked a judge to lift a no-contact order against her boyfriend so that the two could resume their relationship, was beaten, choked and slashed with a knife by that man early yesterday morning, police and prosecutors said.
Christopher Joseph Tome, 23, of 126 Pleasant St., Marblehead, is now being held without bail on charges that include attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threats to commit a crime, witness intimidation and animal cruelty.
Marblehead police were called by a neighbor, who reported that it sounded like there was a domestic disturbance in the apartment, at around 12:24 a.m. yesterday, according to the Marblehead police log.
Lynn District Court prosecutor Anna Zalewski told a judge yesterday that Tome began demanding $800 from the woman to pay his court fees, and began to strangle her to the point where she could not breathe, according to Steve O'Connell, a spokesman for the district attorney.
A friend in the adjacent room heard and intervened, and Tome let go, Zalewski told the judge.
The woman tried to grab the dog and leave, then heard the friend, Robert Hitchcock-Simpson, telling Tome to "put the knife down," the prosecutor said in court.
Ducey told police she tried to leave the apartment again and Tome picked up her 15-week-old dog, " ... repeatedly slamming it against the floor," according to a police report. He picked up a steak knife and swung it at Ducey, cutting her right hand.
The woman, Kristina Ducey, tried to flee the apartment, but Tome grabbed her by the shirt and warned her that if she did, he would kill the dog.
Ducey, according to police reports, allowed her to leave the apartment when she complied with his request to hand over two rings.
She told police Tome had punched and strangled her on June 24 and a police report noted that officers responded to Tome and Ducey's residence on May 24 for a report of a domestic disturbance.
Tome was out on bail in a pending case in which he allegedly bit the same woman three times, and she was pregnant.
Prosecutors are now seeking to have that bail in the after he began struggling with Alves while he was being detained and treated at Addison Gilbert Hospital.
Alves, in his report, stated Tomes said, "kill me, you better shoot me. I don't want to live." References |
