Five dogs found starving, infested with maggots
Springfield, IL (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jul 12, 2011
County: Sangamon

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: John Francis Jordan

Police arrested a man for animal cruelty Tuesday after police found five dogs dying from malnourishment, dehydration and the heat in his back yard.

John F. Jordan, 42, of the 900 block of Phillips Street allegedly told police he was in the process of moving and had been too busy to take care of the animals.

An animal control officer called police to a home in the 2100 block of South Wirt Street just before 1 p.m. They reportedly found a pit bull and four puppies that appeared to be dying. There was no food or water present, the adult dog appeared to be malnourished and the puppies, which appeared to be a couple weeks old, were dying from the heat and had maggots, authorities said.

Jordan arrived while officers were there, and he was arrested. Animal control took custody of the dogs.
