Bones were sticking out of the horses.  When neighbors complained and called sheriff's deputies, it was nearly too late.  Both horses have bones protruding and a vet found internal parasites.  There is no food and little water.

Because the county doesn't have an animal shelter for dogs and cats, let alone horses, Lena Frensley of the Dickson County's Angel Rescue and Transport agreed to take on the horses.

Betty Harper of the Dickson County Humane Society says she had had to rescue these animals before.  The horses will be kept at Harpers farm until a judge decides the next move.

Poteete was not present when the horses were confiscated.  Her mother greeted the sheriff's deputies.  If convicted of the misdemeanor charges, Poteete could face fines and possible jail time.

If you would like to help Lena Frensley care for the horses, you can contact her at Angel's Rescue and Transport in Dickson at 615-740-0964.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
