When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Dog grabbed by neck, thrown against wall
Colchester, IL (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Apr 24, 2011
County: McDonough

Charges: Misdemeanor, Felony Non-CTA
Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Kim I. Nussbaum

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

A Colchester man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly getting violent with his ex-wife, a police officer and a dog.

Kim I. Nussbaum, 46, faces charges of domestic battery, aggravated, resisting/obstructing a peace officer and animal cruelty following the incident.

According to reports, Colchester police were dispatched to a home on U.S. Route 136 for a report of domestic violence.

When the officer arrived, Nussbaum's ex-wife told police that he had pushed her up against a stove, and grabbed a dog at the residence by its neck and threw it against a wall.

According to Colchester Police Chief Dave Bland, when the officer attempted to place Nussbaum under arrest, the suspect pushed the officer in the chest.

Bland said the officer then tased Nussbaum, who was then subdued.

The suspect was taken to McDonough District Hospital for treatment and released into custody.

Bland said the officer wasn't hurt.

During an initial court appearance on Monday, Judge Richard Gambrell set Nussbaum's bond at $10,000.

McDonough County Assistant State's Attorney Kenneth O. Wang said he was asking for the increased bond because of Nussbaum's previous convictions, which include domestic battery in 2006 and battery in 2003.

Case Updates

A Colchester man was sentenced to prison time Tuesday stemming from an incident in which he battered his ex-wife, a police officer and two dogs. Kim I. Nussbaum, 46, pleaded guilty on Monday to one felony charge of resisting a peace officer resulting in bodily harm, as well as misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and animal cruelty.

Nussbaum was arrested on April 24 after Colchester police were dispatched to a residence on U.S. Route 136. There, reports say, officers found Nussbaum highly intoxicated and agitated.

When the officer attempted to put Nussbaum in handcuffs, the defendant pushed the officer in the chest, causing soreness.

Nussbaum was eventually tased by the officer.

A woman at the scene identified as Nussbaum's ex-wife, said that the defendant had choked and thrown two dogs against a wall.

When she tried to defend the animals, Nussbaum pushed her against a stove.

Reports indicate that her injuries were minor and the dogs didn't need medical attention.

On Monday, Judge Richard Gambrell sentenced Nussbaum to spend two years and six months in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, one charge of aggravated battery was dismissed.

Nussbaum has a long criminal history that includes one 10-year sentence in prison for possession of child pornography.

Late last month, Nussbaum was the reported victim of an alleged attack in the McDonough County Jail.

In the incident, 36-year-old Robert Wilson, a cellmate at the time, slammed Nussbaum's head against a wall and attempted to choke him with a telephone cord.

Wilson, who is jailed on attempted murder charges stemming from a stabbing earlier this year, was charged with aggravated battery for the alleged incident.
