27 dogs starved, 1 dead
Bolingbrook, IL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Jun 11, 2011
County: Will

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Brian Q. Brown

A Bolingbrook man faces animal cruelty charges after investigators said he knowingly starved and failed to care for 27 dogs he kept at his home.

Brian Q. Brown, 21, of the 400 block of Newtown Court, was charged Wednesday with six counts of cruel treatment of animals and eight charges stemming from him neglecting his duties as a pet owner, said Will County State's Attorney's Office spokesman Chuck Pelkie.

The charges allege that Brown failed to provide food and veterinary care to the dogs that Bolingbrook police found at his residence on Newtown Court earlier this month. Police found one dog dead in the home and others in cages and kennels. Breeds in the home included Irish Terriers, a Bulldog, a Doberman, Japanese Chins and a Maltese.

A warrant was issued Wednesday for Brown's arrest, Pelkie said. Bond has been set at $25,000. A Will County judge also ordered that Brown not have contact with animals. No court date has been set yet.
