Authorities are asking for the public's help in apprehending the person who killed a Pit Bull puppy that was found tied to a garbage can on a Bay Shore pier Thursday night.
The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
Police called the SPCA after the discovery was made at the dock at the end of Maple Avenue.
The rope was fastened on one end to the inside of the garbage pail and on the other end around the waist of the puppy. A small chicken bone was also attached to the rope about two feet from the puppy.
Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk SPCA, described the discovery as a horrible act of animal cruelty.
