10-month-old dog beaten and kicked
Cottonwood, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jun 9, 2011
County: Yavapai

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Kevin Corley

A 10-month-old Rottweiler mix is recovering at the Sedona Humane Society while his owner is behind bars for animal cruelty.

On Thursday, an off-duty Yavapai County Sheriff's Office animal control officer saw a woman leaning out of her car door and yelling at someone in front of her. The officer then noticed a man hitting a black and tan dog in the head with his fist.

The man, later identified as 32-year-old Kevin Corley, also began kicking the dog and eventually stepped on the dog's legs before hitting it again, deputies said.

The officer called in for back up and asked Corley to stop attacking the dog.

Corley continued hitting the dog, even when he was asked to stop, until a deputy showed up and arrested him, YCSO said.

Corley claimed he was just "correcting his dog," but several witnesses were able to come forward and share their story about Corley's abusive behavior towards the animal.

Deputies said the puppy had an "evident limp" to its rear leg as it was led away.

Monday, Corley remained at the Camp Verde Detention Center, booked on one count of cruelty to animals and disorderly conduct.

No word on the condition of the 10-month-old Rottweiler mix.
