A male housecat belonging to Kevin & Karen Ingle has been cut almost exactly in half. The family reported they had seen the cat alive around 5:30am but at 11am as they were leaving to go to watch a high school marching band competition, they found the front torso of their cat lying in the street on Bailey Road, just around the corner from their house on Ty Lane in Azle, Texas.

The police report states the injuries to the cat were "not consistent with those made by an animal. It was a smooth cut with no jagged edges or tears. The cat's insides had been removed".

The evidence concluded that the cat was killed elsewhere and the cat's torso was brought to Bailey Road and thrown on the street. The other half of the body has not been found.

Animal cruelty in Texas is a felony punishable by 180 days to 2 years jail time, and a fine of up to $10,000.

The cat was well cared for. It had been declawed, neutered and was wearing a collar.

Azle psychologist Tiara Roberts believes the cat's appearance may have been a contributing factor in his death. "They saw a pretty cat and wanted to hurt it". More than likely the act was done by someone lacking empathy towards others. Someone who wanted to hurt anyone, whether animal or people". A child 18 years of age or younger with these type of feelings is said to have a "conduct disorder". "When the child becomes an adult that disorder becomes "antisocial behavior".

Many animal protection organizations and law enforcement agencies have linked animal cruelty to domestic violence, child abuse, serial killings and to the recent rash of killings by school-age children.
