Please vote on whether or not you feel the sentence in this case was appropriate for the crime. (Be sure to read the entire case and sentencing before voting.)

weak sentence = one star
strong sentence = 5 stars

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

3 starved dogs infested with fleas and ticks
Geraldton, WA (AU)

Incident Date: Friday, Dec 3, 2010

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Heather Mourambine

A West Australian woman whose three dogs were starved and infested with fleas and ticks has been fined $2000 for animal cruelty.

The RSPCA visited the home of Heather Mourambine, at Geraldton in WA's north, on December 3, 2010 after a complaint was made about the health of three dogs in the backyard of the property.

A crossbreed named Buster, a Shih Tzu named Lilly and a Kelpie cross named Bumblebee were found emaciated as a result of malnutrition and were affected by fleas and ticks.

Lilly and Bumblebee both need blood transfusions.

The treating veterinarian concluded all three animals suffered harm due to a lack of nutrition, and inadequate flea treatment and worming.

Mourambine pleaded guilty in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Thursday to causing her animals to suffer harm.

She was fined $2000 and ordered to pay $3300 in costs.
