Donkey shot dead for biting
New York Mills, MN (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Mar 17, 2011
County: Otter Tail

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Paul Stoltz

In a battle of man vs. beast, a New York Mills man came out on top over his donkey on Thursday when he shot it dead after it bit him.

The man, Paul Stoltz, 51, of 806 East Diamond Road, showed up at the Perham Memorial Hospital at about 5:15 p.m., law enforcement reported. Stoltz told hospital staff that he had been bitten by a donkey.

Upon further investigation, a sheriff's deputy discovered that Stoltz had been trying to move his donkey from one field to another on his property earlier in the day. The donkey did not want to move and bit Stoltz in the back and knocked him to the ground. In turn, Stoltz shot and killed the donkey.

Stoltz's injuries do not appear to be serious, but the hospital wants him to bring the donkey's head into the hospital to test for rabies.
