A local man has been charged with animal cruelty after police said they found he had not given proper care to his dog.

Mark J. Villada, 23, of 12 Palmer Lane, was arrested about 12:53 p.m. Tuesday. He was given a summons to appear May 23 at Derby Superior Court.

According to police, police officer Louis Denaro responded to a report of a dog struck by a vehicle, but upon arrival, he learned that the dog hadn't been given proper care by Villada.
