The Montgomery County Sheriff's department has arrested three people on animal cruelty charges.

Police were called to a barn on Esperance Road in the town of Charleston on April 30th, where they say they found horses living in what they called deplorable conditions. Police say several horses were found fenced in to a pasture without food, water, or proper shelter.

Arrested on Tuesday, and charged with cruelty to animals, was John Hotaling of Schenectady, and Brian and Johanna Zanghi, who both live in Summit. They're due back in court on May 19th.

The sheriff's department says arrangements have been made to move the animals to another location.
