Court documents revealed details about a 68-year-old Buckeye man who was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and neglect after Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies seized 18 emaciated horses and euthanized one - more than a dozen were found dead on the ranch property.
Terryl Lynn Reding was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of 18 counts of animal cruelty and one felony count of cruel neglect after deputies responded to a complaint Sunday about the condition of his horses, according to Maricopa County Superior Court documents.
Sheriff's deputies checked on Reding's property, which is at 20600 block of West Elliot Road in Buckeye, three times before the arrest, once in October of 2008, and in September and October of 2010, according to the court documents. Deputies noted to poor condition of the horses during each visit to Reding's property.
On Sunday, deputies discovered a 16-year-old horse that was "totally emaciated," at Redings property, according to the documents. The horse was unresponsive and lying on its side next to a pile of manure, according to court documents. A veterinarian told deputies that the horse had most likely been lying there for at least 12 hours. The veterinarian euthanized the horse at the scene, according to court documents.
Deputies served a warrant Tuesday and seized 18 horses from Reding's property, all of which were reported to be extremely skinny, according to court documents.
Deputies said there was a total of 30 horses on Redings property. The condition of the remaining 11 horses is unclear. References |
