Theft/dognapping of a pregnant bulldog
Taunton, MA (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Oct 3, 2003
County: Bristol

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A pregnant purebred Old English bulldog was dognapped during a daytime burglary in which several thousand dollars' worth of jewelry was also taken. The burglary and the dognapping occurred sometime between 10:15 am and noon by entering the back door and through a secondary door into the main section of the house.

The dog was returned 3 days later after an annonomous phone caller stated 'Your dog was treated fine, so don't worry.' They also said the dog was left at the tennis courts in Raynham" The owners found the dog at the Taunton Animal Shelter after she was found by the shelter on Thrasher St.

The dog named Weezie is due to have 3 purebred pups worth up to $3000 each. The pups are valuable because Old English bulldog pups nearly became extinct at one point are are still very rare. The burglars left behind Cocoa, a pregnant pit bull and Mugsy, the sire of Weezie's litter.

Because of Weezie's temperment, the burglar was not afraid of her. Weezie did put up a fight before being taken as there were claw marks in the floor as she was dragged out of the house. The other two dogs are also friendly.

A screwdriver was found in the home, believed to be the burglars.
The police also took fingerprints as evidence. The neighbors reported seeing a black car with shiny wheel rims drive by several times and slow down in the area of their houses.
