Failure to provide vet care for severe injury
Dothan, AL (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Apr 11, 2011
County: Houston

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Dennis Mitchell Corbitt

Officers arrested Dennis Mitchell Corbitt, 23, of Andy Lane, for significant injuries to both front legs of an 8-month-old bull dog. According to a police statement, the charge stemmed from police responding to a report of an injured dog in the 100 block of Andy Lane after they received a call on Monday.

The police statement said officers learned at the home that the puppy was injured after it was placed into a pen with another pit bull dog that attacked it. The statement said a local veterinarian described the puppy's wounds as a "de-gloving injury," that had happened a couple of weeks earlier. The statement said the veterinarian defined "de-gloving" as an injury where the skin and tissue were torn away from the bone.

The police statement said the puppy was taken to the Dothan Animal Shelter, but due to the severity of the injuries officials euthanized the puppy.

Dennis Mitchell Corbitt was arrested and charged with Second Degree Cruelty to Animals, a class A Misdemeanor with a $500 bond.
