An arrest warrant has been issued for Arturo Flores for the deaths of 12 pit bulls that were found dead in his backyard.

On 03-18-2010, Animal Control and PD units were dispatched to the 4600 block of Carroll Lane for possible animal cruelty.

The smell was coming from 12 dead dogs. Ten were so badly decomposed that a cause of death couldn't be determined.
In an affidavit, the condition of the two dogs was described by the doctor who examined their remains.

Dr. Barbara Whitlock wrote," one of the female dog's entire digestive tract was completely empty, a sign that she hadn't eaten anything in at least three days and probably more than a week."

That female pit bull was so starved; she had depleted all her fat stores and was digesting her own muscle tissue to survive.

Dr. Whitlock says the two dogs that hadn't been buried had been treated in a cruel manner by not being fed or watered. They also suffered from heart worms but were never treated.

We tried talking to Arturo Flores, the man accused of causing the dog's deaths but no one answered when we went knocking.

He will have to answer to police who have charged him with felony cruelty to animals.

The doctor says that," the condition of the dogs found in Flores' backyard is only seen in the most severe cases of animal starvation."

All of the dogs found here were pit bulls, and police say there was no evidence that they had been forced to fight.

CCPD detectives have completed their investigation into this matter and an arrest warrant has been issued for 29-year-old Arturo Flores Jr. for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals (State Jail Felony), signed by Pct.1 Plc.2 with a bond set at $25,000.

Anyone with information on Flores' whereabouts is encouraged to call the police at the non-emergency line 886-2600 or contact Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.

Case Updates

The Petronila resident arrested Thursday afternoon following a domestic assault call that turned into a drug bust is also facing charges of animal torture and cruelty. 30-year-old Arturo Flores was arrested in April 2010, accused of leaving at least 10 pit bulls to die in the backyard of a home on Carrol Lane in Corpus Christi.

Neighbors called animal control and police out to the home because of a bad smell. Authorities immediately found 2 dead dogs chained up in the back yard and piles of remains from other dogs. It's believed the animals starved to death. Flores was arrested and got out of jail on a 25-thousand dollar bond.

Fast forward to this week when Nueces County Sheriff's deputies were called out to a home on County Road 24 in Petronila. A woman had called 911 from the home claiming that Flores had tied her up and was threatening to kill her and himself if she called police. The woman was able to get free of the duct-tape on her wrists and ankles and hid until authorities kicked in the door.

Flores is back in the Nueces County jail charged with the assault and unlawful restraint. Drug charges are still pending for the large marijuana growing operation found in the home along with a large amount of narcotics, weapons, ammunition, and police gear.

Two children, ages 2 and 4, were also in the home. They are now in the care of Child Protective Services.
