A farm owner is under arrest and accused of letting several animals suffer horribly, one of them until it died. Gregorio Arencibia, 72, was cuffed on his Miami-Dade ranch near Okeechobee Road.

The reason he was taken into custody was his failure to show up in court yesterday to answer charges of animal cruelty.

Animal services investigators say the goats were fed garbage and hay filled with mold and larvae.

Investigators say a caller tipped them off to the abuse last month. When they arrived they found 10 starving goats -- and one already dead curled up in a corner.

Arencibia said it the way police were treating him was a spectacle.

He claims he bought the goats, already frail, one week before investigators visited his ranch. He says he was in the process of trying to fatten them up.

Arencibia was forced to give up his surviving goats, eventually selling them to another ranch. Now, he's headed to the county jail.
