Beach police have charged a Virginia Beach homeowner with animal cruelty after discovering several animals on the property Thursday.

Authorities say the home has been condemned by Housing and Neighborhood Preservation. Four to five cats, a bird, a rat, a rabbit and some dogs were discovered inside the home, located at 4656 Boxford Road.

Animal Control has asked family members to take the dogs.
