2 horses seized in poor condition
Clover, SC (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Mar 8, 2011
County: York

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Christine L. Nyland

A Clover woman faces animal abuse charges after an anonymous tip led officials to seize two horses in poor health.

Christine L. Nyland, 29, of Cedar Grove Road in Clover was charged with ill treatment of animals after deputies found the horses, according to a York County Sheriff's Office report.

A York County Animal Control officer alerted deputies after an anonymous complaint led them to discover two horses in poor condition Tuesday night.

One of the horses was found tethered to a tree without food or water. Another horse was on the ground, the report started.

A local veterinarian examined the animals and found them both to be in poor heath. He recommended they be seized, the report states.

Nyland was cited for ill treatment of animals, and she signed custody of the horses over to be seized. They were transported to an area stables.

The horses' conditions are not immediately available. The report notes the vet needed to examine the horse that was on the ground to see why it was down.
