Springfield police were called to a residence in the 2000 block of East Capital Avenue Wednesday after Sangamon County Animal Control officers found a pit bull terrier on an 18-inch chain.
The dog, which appeared emaciated, was chained in the back yard. A resident told police that someone had given him the dog to take care of, and he put it outside after it damaged the inside of the house.
Animal control officers removed the dog.
