A tip led animal control officials to a Wilson County home Wednesday where they found 28 malnourished dogs. Animal control said they don't know how long the animals went without fresh water or food at the Lebanon home.
Robert and Linda Nickerson were charged with 28 counts of animal cruelty. Once inside their home, animal control found several cages filled with feces.
The Nickersons claimed the dogs were a part of their family.
"Now they call us a puppy mill. Yes, it could be a lot cleaner but as far as I'm concernedI've seen a lot worse than what you see here," Robert Nickerson said.
Animal control removed 27 poodles, one German Shepard and a bird from the home. They were all taken to a nearby shelter. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
