Dog's throat slashed
Glendale, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Dec 1, 2010
County: Maricopa

Charges: Felony CTA, Felony Non-CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Erik Ojeda

A Glendale man has been charged with DUI, reckless driving, and animal cruelty in two separate incidents.

Early Thursday morning, police initiated a traffic stop on Erik Ojeda after he was observed rolling through a stop sign and driving the wrong way on 63rd Ave.

The patrol officer observed signs and odors of intoxication, but Ojeda refused sobriety field tests and failed to submit to a breath test. Ojeda has two prior DUI convictions in 2006 and 2009 and his driving privileges had been taken away.

Officers obtained a search warrant for Ojeda's blood and he was booked into jail. Results have not yet come back.

Back in December, Ojeda was at his parent's residence with his sister and her small dog. Ojeda told his sister he was going to kill her dog and was intoxicated, according to court documents.

Ojeda picked up the dog, took a knife and cut the dog across his throat. He released the dog thinking it was dead, and the dog tried to get away, but Ojeda grabbed one of its legs and stabbed it to death, the report alleges.

Ojeda has been charged with aggravated DUI - suspended license, felony animal cruelty, misdemeanor DUI, and reckless driving in both incidents.
