Dog abandoned at post office leads to 9 more
Easley, SC (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jan 26, 2011
County: Pickens

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Benjamin Franklin Waldon

An Easley man was charged with animal cruelty after authorities said a Pickens police investigation led officers to a single-wide trailer with 10 dogs inside.

Benjamin Franklin Waldon of 201 Maple St., Easley, was charged with cruelty to animals and must appear in municipal court on Feb. 10 or pay a $1,092.50 fine, according to a uniform traffic ticket issued by the Pickens Police Department,.

A police report says officers received a report of a dog "which appeared to be in poor health" abandoned in the Pickens post office.

Information gathered at the post office led police to a single-wide trailer on South Lewis Street, the incident report says.

Police summoned animal control officers to pick up the dog at the post office as well as the dogs in the trailer.

The dogs, including two puppies, were removed from the scene by animal control officers, the report says.
