Dog shot
Crocker, MO (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Dec 25, 2010
County: Pulaski

Charges: Misdemeanor, Felony Non-CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: John Davis-Raikes

A man from Crocker is charged with shooting a dog in his neighbor's yard on Christmas. Investigators say John Davis-Raikes claimed the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

Davis-Raikes is charged with misdemeanor animal abuse, felony property damage and armed criminal action. Investigators say Davis-Raikes told them that he believed the yellow Labrador that he shot as it stood in his neighbor's yard was the same dog that he saw rooting through his trash days earlier. Lily, however, belongs to a man from suburban Saint Louis who was visiting his mother on Christmas.

Lily was severely injured but survived the wound after having a portion of her intestines removed. She's doing fine. The surgery and treatment cost Lily's family about $2,000.

A judge set Davis-Raikes' bond at $10,000. If he's convicted, he could face a prison sentence as long as four years for property damage, at least three years for armed criminal action, and a year for animal abuse.
