Phoenix police arrested a woman on animal cruelty charges Tuesday.

Serene Bass, 19, beat a kitten with a bat at 600 North 19th Avenue, according to police.

Officers said witnesses identified her, and they said they found blood on the small bat in her pocket and on her shoe.

The kitten died.

Police said they also found a pipe used to smoke rock cocaine.

Bass has been charged with one felony count of animal cruelty, one misdemeanor count of animal cruelty and one count of possession and use of drug paraphernalia.
