Hoarding - 21 dogs seized
Manassas, VA (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Dec 29, 2010
County: Prince William

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Beverly Ganczak

Beverly Ganczak's home has been condemned. The sign on her door reads "Dangerous structure, unsafe for human occupancy."

On Wednesday, Manassas, Va., Animal Control officers executed a search warrant to investigate a complaint of cruelty to animals at her home in the 9500 block of Natural Bridge Court. They recovered 21 dogs living in unsanitary conditions -- filth, feces and ammonia with debris strewn around the house.

Ganczak had no comment for NBC Washington as she left her home Thursday.

Some of her neighbors in the townhouse development said they feel sorry for her. She loved dogs and probably overextended herself as a dog rescuer.

Other neighbors said the barking and the smell from the backyard had gotten to be too much.

Ganczak has released some of the dogs -- which were toy breeds like Malteses, poodles and papillons -- to be put up for adoption.
