Dogs attacked during domestic dispute
Libertyville, IL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Dec 25, 2010
County: Lake

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Joseph S. Cox

A Libertyville man has been charged with domestic battery and cruelty to animals after an incident Christmas night at his home in the 1200 block of Willow Road.

Joseph S. Cox, 30, was arrested after a woman who had locked herself in the bathroom called police.

According to Libertyville Police Lt. Scott Fabbri, the woman had scrapes and bruises on her arms and body. She told police she feared the man's continuing "physical tirade."

She also allegedly told police that while she was in the bathroom, she heard dogs moaning and crying in another part of the house. One of the dogs had a significant limp, Fabbri said.

"We don't know exactly how the dogs got injured," Fabbri said. "But this gentleman was very aggressive, so he didn't tell us much of anything and he didn't want to go to jail and was cited with resisting arrest."

Cox was held overnight for a bond court hearing at the Lake County courthouse the next day. The police report does not say how many dogs were at the home or who owned the dogs, Fabbri said.

The woman was transported by Libertyville paramedics to Advocate Condell Hospital for treatment, Fabbri said.

Cox could not be reached for comment.
