A Grand Junction man is behind bars after police say he abused a small dog.

According to an arrest affidavit, 44-year-old Roger Pitcher went to the home of a woman he liked Sunday afternoon, and was seen kicking and picking up and throwing a small, white dog in the front yard. The report states the dog yelped as if it was being injured, then ran away after it got free from its collar.

When a neighbor went to confront him about the dog, he allegedly made threatening remarks.

The dog's owner told police her dog did not appear to be injured but was very traumatized by what happened.

Pitcher faces charges of animal cruelty and felony menacing.

Authorities say he was on parole when he was arrested and currently has a hold placed him that will prevent him from bonding out of jail.
