Oregon Humane Society Humane investigators removed an animal from a home Wednesday in Northeast Portland and cited the owners with animal neglect.

OHS and Portland Police officers served a search warrant on a single-family residence at 6356 NE 6th Avenue in Portland. OHS discovered an elderly non-ambulatory Rottweiler mix named 'Buster' that appeared to be emaciated and in pain. The owners of the dog, Kent and Grace Adamson, were charged with animal neglect and voluntarily relinquished the dog to OHS, where it is now getting needed medical attention.

Another resident of the house, Cecil Walling, was charged with neglect two weeks ago in regard to a sick and dying cat. The residents have also been cited multiple times in the past for animal violations by Multnomah County authorities.

Wednesday's search warrant was sought by OHS after Kent Adamson brought a neglected pet rabbit to OHS that was severely malnourished and suffering from urine scalding. In addition to Buster, OHS investigators discovered a rabbit, dog and five cats at the house Wednesday, but none except Buster appeared to be suffering from neglect. Those animals remain at the house, but OHS is keeping the case open and may file more charges in the future.

Animal neglect is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $6,250. Those convicted of animal neglect are prohibited from owning domestic animals for five years.
