County: Chatham

Charges: Misdemeanor, Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jackie Simmons

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Police arrest a man they say is responsible for a dog fighting ring recently busted in Garden City. Jackie Simmons, 61, is charged with animal cruelty and dog fighting.

On December 8, police seized eleven pitbulls in a wooded area along Big Hill Road in Garden City. The dogs were chained to trees and in poor health.

They've since been taken to the Chatham County animal control.

The pitbulls are up for adoption. So far, a family did adopt the only puppy.

Meryl Cohen, owner of Bully and Friends K-9 Training, is working with the dogs closely to see how they interact with animals and people.
"They're really great dogs. They're everything you want in a dog. A pitbull owner will tell you once you own a pitbull, you will never be without one. These dogs, just because they've come from a rough environment doesn't mean they're unsuitable for adoption and these are turning out to be good dogs," stated Cohen.

Ruby, a one-year-old pitbull, is the latest dog Cohen says is ready to go to a loving home. She says she's non-aggressive and friendly toward people and pets.

For information on adopting, you can contact animal control at 912-351-6750.
