Baltimore City Police have charged four individuals in connection with a dog fighting ring that was uncovered during a drug raid.

Jessica Deans, Donta Burrus, Melvin Fuller and Alfred Dorsey have each been charged with 42 counts of Animal Cruelty.

Police initially responded to the 2300 block of Edgemont Avenue for a drug raid when they found overwhelming evidence of dog fighting.

Officers observed a full size treadmill with a red wooden box built around and secured to the base of the treadmill, attached to the box were chains that are commonly used to attach a dog leash and collar.

Upon entering the house, an officer observed a male pitbull and a brown female pitbull behind a fence with no food or water in the yard. Both of the dogs were described as being very thin with their spine and ribs protruding. Both dogs had scars covering their faces, and the female had her ears removed.

Once in the basement of the home a black and white female pitbull was discovered confined within a makeshift crate, also with no food or water. This dog also had an open and bloody wound on her neck.

Officers also found a fourth dog in the basement in the same crate. The dog was attempting to take shelter in the bottom of a filing cabinet. He had what was described as an unusually large face with a great deal of scars and open wounds. No food was available for him either.

Also while in the basement officers discovered a fifth black female pitbull who was secured to a piece of metal weight lifting apparatus, by a heavy link chain that was held in place by cinder blocks. Due to the short chain this dog was forced to sit, stand and sleep in fecal matter. No food or water was found near the dog. She also suffered from many scars and cropped ears.

The sixth and final dog was being kept in the front of the basement. The final dog was a white pitbull puppy. The puppy was secured to a bed box spring by a large link chain. No food or water was available for the puppy either.

There was a couple of buckets of water in the basement, however, they were all frozen.
