Alleged: Gary Wolfenbarger
A Mount Pleasant man accused of poisoning a pet Chihuahua was released on bond Saturday. Gary Wolfenbarger is charged with felony animal cruelty, Mount Pleasant police said.
Wolfenbarger, who is in his late 20s, is accused of lacing the animal's dog food with anti-freeze Tuesday evening at the Harbor Gate Shores residence of the dog's owners, according to Animal Control Officer Brandy Banks of the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Wolfenbarger lives near the family that owned the Chihuahua, police said.
The family took the dog to a veterinarian Thursday, but the animal had to be euthanized, Banks said. Wolfenbarger was arrested Friday based on eyewitness testimonies of the poisoning, Banks said.
The dog, named Wolfie, was a 2-year-old male that had been a gift of one of the family's children, Banks said.
Felony animal cruelty carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. References« SC State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Charleston County, SC
