Two dogs starved to death in backyard
Medford, NY (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Nov 17, 2010
County: Suffolk

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Sean Russ

A 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly allowing two pit bulls to starve to death in the backyard of his Medford home.

Suffolk County SPCA officers charged Sean Russ with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty, a felony.

Chief Roy Gross said officers responded to the Barbara Lane home last week on a tip from the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter and found the severely emaciated dogs already dead. Food bowls were found in the yard with leaves and debris in them.

A necropsy determined that they both suffered from chronic malnutrition and neglect which led to their death, gross said.

One dog was a young male, approximately three years old weighing 33 pounds and the other was a male puppy approximately 4 months old weighing about 14 ½ pounds, Gross said.

Russ will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
