Two dogs abandoned, one dead on chain
Keystone Heights, FL (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Nov 19, 2010
County: Clay

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

An investigation is underway to find the owners of two abandoned pit bulls.

One of the dogs was found dead attached to a 5-foot chain. The other, 10 pounds underweight, is expected to recover. It was also chained.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office and animal control were called to Indian Trail late this morning, near Belmore State Forest.

Linda Hicks who lives next door says the homeowners who raised pit bulls pulled stakes a month ago leaving some dogs behind.

"A bunch 8 or 9, a bunch of puppies and the last three that were there, one is roaming up and down the road, the one white pit pull dead the other animal control took," said Hicks.

Lt. Mel Gaden said police are investigating who last lived at the address. Neighbors told deputies the last time they saw someone care for the animals was Nov 11.

The two pit bulls did not have any food or water when investigators arrived, Gaden said.

Animal cruelty is a felony.

If you know anything that can help the investigation, call Crime Stoppers at 888-277-TIPS (8477). You will remain anonymous and could receive a cash reward if your information leads to an arrest.
