Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » 11 year old juvenile » 14 year old juvenile
Two boys have been arrested in connection with the theft of a dozen exotic animals from a nature center in Baltimore's Leakin Park.
The children, ages 11 and 14, were arrested and are being handled as juveniles. Police said their mother is the one who called authorities to say she found the missing wildlife.
Police recovered the animals on Tuesday inside a home in the 5000 block of Clifton Avenue in southwest Baltimore, not far from the Carrie Murray Nature Center.
The animals were taken from the nature center during two different break-ins since Saturday morning. Six turtles, two geckos, an iguana and a Madagascar hissing cockroach were among the exotic creatures taken.
Police said they received a few tips about the case, including one from a person who said he or she had seen kids carrying cages into an apartment complex near the center. Police said the mother of the two boys arrested also called police once she found the animals.
The nature center told 11 News on Wednesday that all the animals have been returned and are doing fine.
