Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A national non-profit organization has stepped in to help a Lawrence County family whose dog was severely injured in a drive by shooting last week.

California-based United Animal Nations (UAN) has issued a grant to help pay for veterinary care for the dog, named Magic.

UAN is also offering a $2,500 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for shooting the dog.

Magic was shot last Wednesday after the Beaulieu family returned home from church.

They let their four dogs into the yard, and called them back in a few minutes later, but Magic didn't return.

The family found her lying motionless in the driveway and rushed her to Shoal Creek Animal Hospital, thinking she had been hit by a car.

Veterinarians discovered Magic had been shot several times by someone from a passing car.

Pellets were found near her spine, and the family learned the dog, who loves to run, may not even be able to walk again.

Dr. Jonathan Pitts, who is treating Magic, said, "The chances of her walking again aren't that great. Unfortunately, the odds are against her."

Magic's owner Chelsea Kifer told News 2 she is holding out hope for a recovery. She said, "I'm just hanging in there, because she deserves a chance."

UAN has posted video of the dog's recovery on YouTube.com.

Magic is receiving anti-inflammatory medication and fluids and will be reassessed in a few days.

The family received a $300 LifeLine grant from UAN, but veterinarian bills are already close to $1,000.

The Beaulieu family rescued Magic as a puppy in 2005 after finding her lying in a ditch covered in ticks.
