Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

An unknown person shot a Corgi puppy with a pellet gun in the backyard of a Westminster home. Veterinarians removed part of its spleen, and 11-month-old Copper is expected to survive.

The puppy's owners " Brian and Kim Sullivan and daughter Morgan" are steamed. They say they notified Westminster Police about the incident Friday afternoon around 5 p.m. and are worried about other animals being threatened.

"He's a puppy, not a vicious animal. Just a kind-hearted little dog. And he was shot in his own backyard," said Kim Sullivan, who discovered the pup quivering after she returned with Morgan from an errand. "I should be able to leave my dog in my own backyard while I run to the store," she said.

They carried Copper to Wheat Ridge Veterinary Hospital, where veterinarians removed part of his spleen in two-hour surgery, Brian Sullivan said.

Pets "are innocent. I wouldn't elevate them to the status of a human. But it hurts you quite a bit when you lose one and especially when one gets hurt," he said, noting that the family now owes $5,000 in veterinary bills.

"If it costs $10,000 or $15,000, I'll pay that, too," he said. "And I don't have that."
