Over the weekend Evansville police say they discovered a case of animal neglect on Negley Avenue.

According to EPD they found eight animals, one that was dead.

Neighbors say the resident moved out a month ago, leaving the animals without food or water.

On Tuesday officers told 14 News when they entered the home, they were overwhelmed by the smell, but when they came into the living what the saw was unbelievable, rabbits, a rat, and several dogs roaming free.

In the living room, rabbit feces covered the floor, dirty diapers and other trash pilled up next to a baby carriage, and locked in the crate they found a deceased dog, covered in maggots.

EPD Public Information Officer Steve Green says the former owner could face some fierce consequences.

"They are definitely looking at some charges, and I doubt that they will be able to get those animals back and I think they are going to try and make it so they won't have any animals if they treat them the way they treat those animals there."

The animals are currently at Animal Care and Control.

Police say they've been unable to make contact with the former owner, Andrew Huntsman.
