Two dogs neglected, one found dead
Durant, OK (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Oct 12, 2010
County: Bryan

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Duane Anthony Sallee, II

A Durant man has been charged with animal cruelty following an investigation into allegations that he deprived his dogs of food and water.

Duane Anthony Sallee II, 23, was charged Thursday. Durant Police Patrolman Brandon Laxton and Animal Control Officer Mark Lasiter responded Oct. 12 to a residence in the 2100 block of Mason Street, and according to an affidavit, there was a dead dog in the back yard, plus another one suffering from malnutrition.

No one was home, but officers learned through the course of the investigation that the dog had been dead for approximately a week, according to the affidavit, and the house had not had utility services for several months.

The deceased dog and the dog that was chained up were taken into custody by animal control. Police obtained a search warrant for the house to take another dog that was inside.

Upon entering the house, Laxton saw approximately nine piles of dog feces on the floor throughout the house, the affidavit states.

According to police Sallee contacted animal control on Oct. 12 and said the dogs belonged to him, and that he wanted to get them back. He was told to contact the police department, and since then Laxton has attempted to contact Sallee but has been unable to reach him.
