An Evansville man is arrested on animal cruelty charges.

Evansville police say Dario Mendex Reyes was taken into custody late Saturday night after someone reported seeing him hit his pit bull several times.

Authorities say during their investigation, they found that the dog had several whip marks, and didn't have any food, water, or shelter.

Officers say while they were at his home, they saw Reyes kick the dog in the side of its head.

The dog was taken to animal control.

Reyes was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail.
