A small, black cat suffered a serious injury Thursday when it was apparently shot in the eye with an arrow, police said.

State police from the Buena Vista station were dispatched to Collings Lakes around 10 a.m. Thursday for a complaint call, where they discovered the animal with an arrow sticking out of its eye.

The cat was immediately rushed to a local hospital and is recovering, police said.

State police and the Atlantic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will be investigating the incident as an act of animal cruelty.
