On Friday, YPD officers responded to an unusual call after two or three people called to report shots fired in the 600 block of North Street around 1:20 a.m.
The callers also reported hearing sounds of an animal screaming or dying.
Officers responded and contacted 27-year-old Kevin Haller.
Gamache said officers discovered through talking to Haller that he had returned home and found that his dachshund had caused some damage to his home.
"He basically decided that was the last straw," Gamache said officers reported.
Haller allegedly took the dog into the backyard and used an 8 mm Mauser rifle to shoot and kill it.
He was taken into custody at 1:50 a.m., transported to the Siskiyou County Jail, and booked on charges of animal cruelty and negligent discharge of a firearm. References |
