A Canton man was arrested on an animal cruelty charge after he assaulted a puppy, Stark County Jail records said.
The 22-year-old High Avenue NW man was arrested at his home at 9:30 p.m. Friday after he picked up a four-month-old puppy by the throat “while trying to cause it serious harm,” the jail records said. “The puppy was dangling in the air and trying to breathe.”
The jail records did not say what happened to the puppy afterward or who has it now.
But the man was booked into the jail on a misdemeanor cruelty to animals charge.
The man has run into trouble with the Stark County Dog Warden’s office before.
Massillon court records show he was convicted in September 2008 of failing to provide proof of a dog rabies vaccination. He had also been charged with having no dog license, but that charge was suspended, the court records show.
The man remained in the jail early Saturday, held in lieu of $1,000 bond.
The charge against him, a first-degree misdemeanor, is punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. References |
