Kitten thrown several times, dies
Adrian, MI (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Sep 27, 2010
County: Lenawee

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Christopher Paul Tremaine

A 7-week-old kitten named Precious was found dead Monday, wrapped in a shirt and left in a closet in an Adrian home, and an Adrian teenager is in jail on an animal cruelty charge.

Christopher Paul Tremaine, 17, is scheduled for a video arraignment today [Sept 29, 2010] in Lenawee County District Court on a charge of cruelty and torture of an animal.

According to a report released Tuesday by the Adrian Police Department, Tremaine became angry because his mother’s kitten had scratched him. He then threw the animal several times, killing it.

Cynthia Tremaine of South Winter Street was looking for Precious on Monday and found the kitten’s body wrapped in a shirt on the top shelf of a closet and called police.

Christopher Tremaine at first denied any knowledge of the kitten’s death, police said. But after further questioning, admitted he had killed the kitten, wrapped it up and left the apartment.

Tremaine told police he accidently fell on the kitten, and the animal scratched him. Tremaine said he became angry and threw the kitten against a chair armrest. He then picked up the pet and threw it against the sharp edge of a table. Tremaine said the kitten squeaked, so he threw it one more time and it hit another chair.

He was lodged Monday at the Lenawee County Jail under a $5,000 cash or surety bond.
