Cheektowaga, NY (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Sep 30, 2010
County: Erie

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Cheektowaga Police say they made a very disturbing discovery inside a home on Thursday.

Police were checking the welfare of an 11-year-old child on Wabash Avenue and say they found deplorable conditions inside the home. The child was in school at the time.

Sgt. Laurie Ucasz of the Cheektowaga Police Department said, "I believe two dogs, four cats, two ferrets, and the house is a mess. There's animal feces everywhere, plus general clutter and squalor."

The child's mother, whose name is not being released, is charged with endangerment and animal abuse. The child has been placed in protective services. The animals are in the care of the SPCA.
